Yellow Australian Flower – Gompholobium latifolium, known as golden pea or broad-leaf pea, is a plant in the Fabaceae family and is found in eastern Australia. It is a small shrub with leaves made up of three leaflets and which has large yellow flowers in spring and early summer.
Gompholobium latifolium is an erect, glabrous shrub that grows up to 3 m (10 ft) tall. Its leaves have three linear or lance-shaped leaflets that are mostly 25 to 50 millimeters long and 2 to 6 millimeters wide. The leaves have very short stems and are darker at the top.

The flowers are yellow and are arranged singly or in clusters of up to three in leaf axils or branchial axils on a 10 mm (0.4 in) long stem. The five sepals are about 12 millimeters (0.5 in) long and only joined near their base. They are red, black and shiny on the outside and covered with flat, tufted hairs on the inside. The ‘normal’ petal at the back of the flower is 20-30mm long and the keel is sometimes pale but hairy on the edge with hairs up to 1mm long. Flowering usually occurs from September to November and is followed by a fruit which is a round to roughly spherical pod up to 18 millimeters long and 10 millimeters (0.4 in) wide containing twelve to five kidney-shaped brown seeds . .
Stories From The Garden
Gompholobium latifolium was first formally described in 1805 by James Edward Smith and the description was published in the Annals of Botany.
Golden glory pea grows in dry sclerophyllous forest in Quesland, New South Wales and Victoria on sandy soils. It is very common in New South Wales where it is widespread along the coast and adjacent mountain ranges. It is common in Victoria.
Although a desirable species for its large yellow pea flowers, G. latifolium is rarely found in gardens. It can be easily propagated from seed, but it is often difficult to find suitable seeds. Seeds must be boiled or scratched before germinating Special Offer 23 Days 23 Hours 23 Minutes 23 Seconds Buy Now Special Offer Buy Now Special Offer 23 Days 23 Minutes 23 Seconds Buy Now.
