Longford Flower Show – Longford roses and irises also bloom in spring, and Longford Garden Club is showing them on November 14th and 15th.
Their Spring Flower Show has been a staple of the floral calendar for over 50 years, and COVID-19 isn’t about to get in the way.

Thirty to forty contestants are expected to participate, and 300 to 400 spectators are expected.

Club social media manager Liz Preece said the flower show revealed what was hidden in local members’ gardens.
Along with the roses and irises, there will be cut flowers and stuff for the children, Ms. Breese said.
“There is a section for children. They can decorate a pot or make fruit and vegetable creations,” Ms Breese said.

According to Ms Preece, a big draw is the plant stand where you can buy everything from indoor plants to herbs and vegetable seeds.
Morning and afternoon tea, and a raffle were mentioned by Mrs Preece as features of the event.
The program will be held on Saturday, November 14th from noon to 5:00pm and on Sunday, November 15th from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Gold coins are required to enter the event. More details can be found on the Longford Garden Club Facebook page. On Sunday 11th June, The Countess of Radnor, patron of the gracious Horatio’s Garden, will open the gardens at Longford Castle, near Salisbury.

The castle was built in the late 16th century and has a formal garden from this time.
The park and gardens have been through many forces, including Capability Brown, to the current planning of the gardens, decided in consultation with Tania Compton, the current Countess of Ratner.
Soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the magnificent surroundings of the castle with access to both the formal garden and the ancient garden.
English tea and home-made cake will be served and jazz will be played by the famous Salisbury Big Band.
Flower Show Bites The Dust
All proceeds go to Horatio’s Gardens, a charity that creates and maintains beautiful gardens in NHS spinal cord injury centres.
The cup is named after Horatio Chapple – an Edonian student who wanted to be a doctor and volunteered at a spine clinic in Salisbury.
Creating a garden is Horatio’s idea and his research has shaped garden designs and romantic plans.
Horatio’s life was cut short at 17 when a polar bear attacked his camp during a trip to Svalbard in 2011, but his legacy continues to help patients and their families through the long process of learning to live. with spinal cord injury.

Horatio’s mum Olivia said: “We are delighted that the Countess of Radnor is opening her gardens at Longford Castle to the public in aid of Horatio’s garden.
“Bunny Guinness, the famous garden designer and designer of the fourth Horatio’s Garden in Oswestry, opens the event at 2.30pm. We will have jazz courtesy of the Salisbury Big Band and tea and cakes, so it’s a great way to spend the afternoon” .
The first Horatio Garden opened in 2012 at the Duke of Cornwall’s Spinal Therapy in Salisbury Hospital and was designed by Cleve West.
The second was designed last summer by James Alexander-Sinclair at the Scottish National Spinal Cord Injury Unit in Glasgow.

The center admits an average of 380 new patients per year and provides lifelong care to 3,500 patients living with spinal cord injuries.

Ten unique gardens will be open, including four historic gardens and two never-before-opened gardens with all ticket proceeds going to charity.
“People know to come to Longford Blooms because it’s a place to see a rare and unusual plant that your grandmother used to have,” Ms Gordon-Smith said.

The event will begin on the Village Green, where visitors will receive a wristband and map of the event, which is approximately a 1.6km walk.
Hill Street Grocers will be catering for picnics, Langford’s pub will be open for lunch and dinner and there will be a barbecue in the pub.
For light refreshments, the United Church and Langford Garden Club will be serving morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
“Every year I open to the public to collect money for charity, so I know that open gardens are a good way to generate income,” he said.

“There is a woman who was injured in a horse accident in Longford, who is in a coma at Royal Hobart, and she has three little girls,” he said.
“I wanted to do something for the family so I knocked on doors and walked around Langford asking if they would be willing to open their garden to Kelly to help the family,” Mrs Gordon-Smith said.

Described as “the world’s biggest flower show”, the extravaganza will take place from 24 to 28 June, attracting gardeners from far and wide to London to enjoy stunning garden styles and floral displays.
This year’s show gardens are going wild for native plants, natural styles, sustainability, mental health themes, climate change alerts and diverse messages.

In The Blandmans Ice Garden sanctuary Gardens, a 3m high and wide, 15-tonne block of ice will slowly melt over the five days of the event, representing climate change. Andy Sturgeon, winner of the Chelsea Gold Medal for Mind health charity, has The Mind Garden in his garden, designed to encourage people to sit, share and listen. It uses tactile additions with water features, oak and clay, as well as natural wood and colorful lawn planting. At the top, it features a circular seating area, creating a sanctuary for conversation.
