How To Make A Flower Beaded Necklace – Honestly, is there anything happier than pearls? I was in dire need of a dose of happiness for the weekend and picked up some colorful bracelets to cheer me up. Chamomile chains can be made from the seeds

It’s hard, but honestly, it’s not hard at all. It’s a no-brainer as long as you have the right stuff. Dare to stop at one, that is

It is important to use the correct thread or cable here. My favorite thread for the daisy chain is Griffin Twisted Silk Thread. It comes with a needle attached which makes it difficult on delicate seeds, especially since you have to double thread through some of the seed pods. Remove the whole card and double the end. You want to leave about a 3-4 inch tail.

Note: You definitely don’t want to use bungee cord here. It is very difficult to weave tightly on camomile.

String some seed beads. Next, you will add the colors of the daisy petals to create the top half of the flower. Since I’m using a slightly larger center gold bead here, I add 5 beads here. If you were using a smaller center bead (like an 8/0 seed bead) I would add 4.

Add a center bead. Again, I’m using a 3mm gold bead, but you can use any size bead. Take the needle and thread it through the 1st color bead to the loop/end of the bracelet.

Note: See how important it is to have a cord or string that goes through your seed twice. Size and material matter.

Add three more colored beads. Then take the needle and thread it through the last colored bead to your center bead. It should be in the opposite direction of the beginning of the bracelet.

Pull the string to the end, form a daisy. You may need to adjust the beads as you tighten to get them in place and make sure they are evenly spaced.

Once it’s all stretched, add a few more insect beads before starting the next daisy. Add the next set of colors (5) and the center bead.

Pass the needle through the first colored bead, add three more beads, then pass the needle through the 5th bead, just before the last center bead.

I like to use a sliding macrame closure for the closure. It’s more work and I find it’s easier to loosen and stretch around the wrist against a brace. If you decide to do a sliding closure, leave about an inch of space. If you just add a clip, you can leave about 1/4-1/3″ of space.

Note. here I’m using a chinese knot to close because I was already running out of silk thread and wanted a contrasting color to make it stand out better. I actually prefer Chinese knot cord for slide locks. But if you don’t want to bother buying, you can use silk thread, preferably in size.

Cut 8-10 inches of wire or string. Place the ends of the tape parallel and opposite to each other. Place the center of the cuff under the ends of your bracelet. Fold the right cable over the threads, then fold the left cable. On the right cable, down. Pull the left under the right and middle strands, then through the loop on the right.

Now do the same on the opposite side, completing the square knot. Complete the 2nd half of the square knot by folding it over the middle strands of the left cord and under the right cord. Pull the right cord under the left and middle cords and through the loop on the left side.

To complete the closure, pass one of the strings through the needle and sew the center of the 2-3 loops to the back. A pair of pliers will help pull the needle through tight knots.

Pull the other end and then cut the two ends as close to the knots as possible. Now, your strap can be tightened by pinching the ends or loosened by pulling on the strap. Measure for fit, then slip two seed beads onto each end and tie the ends into a knot. to cut

Notice that the simple beaded bracelets were strung on elastic cords and then triple-knotted. Happy beading!! We weren’t kidding last week when we said we couldn’t get enough FLOWER power this summer. Can you blame us? We’re bringing it back this week, but now with BEADS!

It’s versatile and so satisfying to do. You can go the traditional route with white and yellow pearls, or go ALL IN with neon (obviously our preference) – the possibilities really are endless.

Once you’ve mastered this pattern, you’ll be making daisy chain bracelets, necklaces, cufflinks, rings, or all of the above for everyone you know. Turn on the Flower Power, my friends! 🌼

Whether you’re making a bracelet, necklace, or pendant, you’ll want to start your jewelry making by attaching a clasp. You can start with steps 1-8 of our cufflink tutorial here.

Once your clasp is attached to your string, the next step is to line up your jewelry pattern. Here is the grain board

That will work. As much as we love the flow involved in crafting, we recommend planning your jewelry pattern ahead of time to make sure you have enough “flowers” around the center of each of your flowers.

In this tutorial we are using a 7mm smiley bead for our daisy center, which will require 17 size 11/0 beads for the petals.

If you are using a size 8/0 bead for the center of your daisy, you will need a size 9 11/0 bead for the petals (Example 1).

If you are using a 7mm bead for the center but want larger plates, you will need a size 13 8/0 bead for the sheet (Example 2).

How To Make A Long Beaded Necklace

If you are using all size 8/0 beads, you will need one for the center and 7 for the petals (Example 3).

Using a beading needle, start by adding the insect beads, half of the petal beads (per daisy), then the center daisy bead.

Then bring the needle to the bead of the first petal and pull it tight so the beads cover half of the center of your daisy. Then add the rest of the petal beads.

To complete your flower, thread the needle through the petal on the opposite side of your center bead and pull it tight so that the beads wrap all the way around the center bead.

Add another section of spacer beads, then repeat the daisy process (add half of the petal beads, then your center, etc.).

Now put your sheet (😉) on the metal and get another million. There are definitely possibilities for combining colors and beads

I think this is the easiest of the beaded daisy chains and teaches the basics of backstitching with beads to create a pattern. This makes it a great stitch for beginners of all ages. This was my first introduction to beadwork, even if I didn’t do it right away.

FYI, I learned this stitch right from Horace R. Goodhue’s Indian bead knitting patterns. This is not the easiest bead pattern book, but it is one of the most complete collections of Native American beading techniques. If you’re interested in the book, I recommend checking out this article on the Native American technique of Daisy Chain Stitch, where I talk about it in more detail.

Almost any bead can be used to make a daisy chain. You will get the most traditional look, i.e. Native American style, from Preciosa Czech seed size 11. This is what I used for these examples. The rounded shape and small irregularity combined with bright opaque colors are perfect for me. But, don’t let that stop you from trying other sizes and types of beads.

Thread the needle along the length of the bead thread. This is a rare case where I like to double thread. I find the Nymo gives a nice stretchy chain and using the double chain keeps the beads tight without adding stiffness. I use a thread conditioner like Thread Magic or beeswax and stretch the thread before sewing.

You can start by adding a drop tip to the cuff or the cuff. For this example I start by adding a stop bead. Stop the beads
