To draw a lotus flower, start by drawing an oval with dots inside to represent the seed. Draw a layer of petals around the seed pod to shape it, then add stamens between the petals. To add complexity, draw a second layer of petals around the first, then add 2-3 curved lines to the tip and base of each petal. To start drawing a lotus, we will provide some guidelines to help us determine the size and proportion of the flower in advance. This is very useful because you can plan the image from the beginning and imagine how it will look on the page.
Draw a straight horizontal line near the top of the page, this line defines the top of the lotus.
Now we add the row from the last left of the bottom row. Remember, don’t hesitate to clear and try again, as having the right settings will greatly improve the final result.
Easy Lotus Drawing
Now add a vertical line to the far right of the horizontal line, you can see in the diagram how we are defining the central part of the flower.
Now complete the rectangle by adding the line below. Try to capture proportions similar to the image below, once you are a little more comfortable, you can play around with different proportions. This rectangle is wider than it is tall.
Now add diagonal lines coming from the top left and top right corners, moving down and out of the rectangle. These lines help us to define the outer tips of the petals on the sides.
Draw a horizontal line that separates the center of the box, with this line we will draw a petal in the middle.

Now that we have all our instructions in place, we can start drawing the petals. The above steps may seem a little tedious, but they make the following steps much easier. Draw two diagonal lines down from the top center point, about 2/3 of the way down, then stop. These lines should not reach the bottom of the rectangle.
Continuing from where the diagonal lines end, draw two curved lines inwards until they reach the bottom of the rectangle. Notice how these lines are slightly curved, try not to make them too round.
Having completed the central petals, we begin to draw the petal to its left. Draw a diagonal line going up from the edge of the central petal. Focus on your starting and ending points, start at the corner before bending in the center petals and stand on the edge of our guide.
Draw a curve that starts at the top left and curves to the base of the rectangle. Draw this straight line towards the tip and round the base.

Now repeat the last two steps, but for the right side. The symmetry of the lotus is part of its appeal, so try to make these petals look similar to each other. It doesn’t have to be perfectly symmetrical because that would still look unnatural, but it’s close enough that it feels balanced.
One thing to remember when drawing any flower is that the petals usually come out from a central point. This is because the flower starts as a bulb and is supported in the middle by the stem, so all the petals are attached to this stem. If you look at the diagram above, you can see how the lotus has the effect of the sun on the horizon, which scatters the rays of sunlight. Understanding these broader concepts of drawing flowers will help you draw them from your imagination. 😀
