It is best to clean a dirty mattress immediately, but you may not discover the pee until later, or not until the next morning/day. Even if it’s been a few hours, you don’t have to throw out a dirty mattress, says Carson. There are two steps to follow immediately:

Optional but recommended: lavender essential oil. We used Dotera lavender essential oil. Lavender is what spas use to help you relax. It is known to be calming and help you fall asleep more easily. It has a pleasant smell that almost everyone likes.

We wore gloves to protect ourselves from the pee when we moved the mattress. Also in case we spill. You may or may not need them. We get most of our supplies at the Dollar Store.
Step 4: Mix the solution and pour into your spray bottle. It’s easier to mix before adding but if you have lumps it’s fine. Spray on all pee stains. Saturate the area so that it is thoroughly wet. Don’t forget to spray the sides or top too!

If the stain is still wet, begin to bare – not rub – the stain and soak as much of the pee out of the mattress as you can with the towel. Rubbing it will only make the stain bigger. If it’s dry, there’s not much you can do.
From this point it’s time to soak the stain with white vinegar, be quite generous here and use a towel to wipe as much of the vinegar out of the mattress as possible. Take your time here and be as thorough as you can.
Now is the time to grab your spray bottle and make your own mattress pee remover. Combine about a cup of hydrogen peroxide, which is the one in the brown bottle you can find in the store’s first aid aisle, with three tablespoons of baking soda and about a dime worth
