Backdrops with paper flowers and artificial flowers are great – because they’re not just related to weddings – you can use them for product launches, birthdays, hen parties, baby showers, formals and balls, and more!
In the tutorial below, we will describe the process using artificial flowers and paper flowers. This gives you the opportunity to create a backdrop for your own private event or rent it out to your business clients for weddings or events.

Most places don’t allow you to make holes in the walls or stick things on them. You can avoid this by making your own stand to attach the flower plates.
I’ve attached two DIY stands that I think are easy to make, all supplies can be found at your local hardware store for around $40. Click on the photos below for exact measurements and designs. But if you’re not the building type, you can find them pre-cut and ready to assemble on Etsy. You can get PVC pipe from your nearest plumbing shop and ask them to cut each pipe to the size you need.

All of these pipes use PVC pipes – so go to the plumbing section of your hardware store – such as Brown.
Building a pied wall requires a little more skill and some power tools! Visit East Coast Creative for the supplies and instructions you need to build. Instead of covering the plastic with grass, draw 2-3 chalkboard colors. Use *weights/sandbags on the back to support the weight of the flowers.
Polystyrene wallpaper is very simple and easy to work with. You can find all the materials and construction instructions here. How to make wallpaper. After the board is assembled, you can paint it. Styrofoam is much lighter than plywood, so *weights/sandbags are a must!
(You can get polystyrene boards from foam suppliers – and they will cut them to the size you need. Just google “foam suppliers” in your city.)

Begin by wrapping the green color of your choice around a branch that you see fit. Wrap craft wire around the green to attach to the branch and tighten. Use a hot glue gun to secure loose looking areas.
If desired, remove the leaves from the stem and cut the flower stem into two centimeters. Depending on how heavy the flower head is and what you want, you can change the size of the cut. A flower with a longer stem is a little easier to hang upright.
For ease of use, keep your glue and gold leaf in two separate containers. Dip the brush in the glue and apply directly to the part of the flower you want to decorate. Then take some sparks with a brush and touch them in the desired place. We added gold leaf to some of the branches, leaves and flower petals.
These next steps will teach you how to create your own floral lines! You’ll do about five to eight of these, depending on how long you want your wall to extend. We created five lines with five flowers on each thread to fill a four-foot-long branch.
