Remove the backing Gently press the material in place with the supplied felt pad or your hand while removing the white backing paper. Leave the top layer of the transfer mask intact. When the white lining paper is completely removed. Apply back and forth pressure over the entire graphic to ensure a firm bond with the wall or window.

I was hesitant to share this because everyone seems to know. But I do remember the first time I cut vinyl. Then I tried to apply it by taking each letter. I was wondering how everyone took their letters so straight. Well, it’s really easy once you know what to do. It’s all about the transfer paper. It’s almost like clear contact paper, but it’s more tacky than sticky. Also known as transfer tape, it is sold wherever craft vinyl is sold.
UPDATE 5-4-17. I now always use clean contact paper. It is much cheaper and affordable. the last time i got a roll was at the grocery store. Plus, a roll of it lasts a long time.

Applying vinyl has become second nature to me since I make and sell my own vinyl lettered menu boards. Sometimes I think that if something becomes easy for us, we think it will be easy for everyone.
But if any of you are like me at the beginning of my vinyl application adventures, here is the tutorial:
Step 1 – Once your vinyl is cut, remove the excess vinyl that you will not be using.
Step 2 – Cut a piece of transfer paper large enough to cover your vinyl. Then place it on your vinyl. Run it over with your fingers or a credit card, making sure the vinyl underneath is firmly stuck to the transfer paper.

Step 3 – Gently and slowly pull the transfer paper up. Vinyl should be there. If it doesn’t, put it back on and rub it on that area again. It’s important to go slowly because then you can see if the vinyl isn’t attached before you completely remove the transfer tape and ruin your chance for perfectly spaced letters.
Step 5 – Place the transfer paper where you want to apply and press firmly all over the vinyl.
Step 6 – Remove the transfer paper. Again, go slowly so that if a piece of your vinyl doesn’t stick, you can apply it again while it’s in place.
Step 7: Once the transfer paper is removed, I like to apply the vinyl again to make sure everything adheres firmly.

If you are applying more than one vinyl decal at a time, you should be able to reuse the transfer paper. I generally use one piece for each of the seven days of the week when I make my menu boards.
